The State of Company Registers 2026

A continuous, independent measurement of whether the world's official company registers actually work — and what they put between the public and basic company data.

Official company registers are critical public infrastructure: due diligence, KYC, anti-money-laundering checks and investigative journalism all depend on them. Yet their reliability is almost never measured. companyinfo.me monitors 128 official registers from the outside, every day, from within each register's own country. This report presents the current findings.

Data as of: · measurement window: rolling 90 days

Executive summary

6 of 128 monitored official registers (5%) showed degraded or no availability within the current 90-day window; 70 registers (55%) stayed below 99% availability — a level at which time-critical verification (KYC, sanctions-adjacent checks) routinely fails.

12 registers (9%) gate basic company data behind a captcha and 2 more sit behind an enterprise bot-challenge wall — barriers that block automated access outright and frequently impede human researchers as well.

Europe's registers are measurably more dependable: average availability of 97.5% across 33 European registers versus 88.5% across 95 registers in the rest of the world, and a higher share of barrier-free public access (85% vs 91%).

The median register was available 94.4% of the time; 58 registers recorded no measured downtime at all. The full per-register dataset is published below and free to reuse with attribution.

Europe vs the rest of the world

European registers operate under open-data and company-law directives that most other jurisdictions lack. The gap is measurable:

Access barriers — what stands between the public and the data

Beyond downtime, registers differ in what they place in front of basic company data. We classify each register by the strongest barrier observed on its official public search:

Captcha before data 12 Bot-challenge wall 2 Open (no captcha / challenge) 114
Captcha before data

A captcha must be solved before basic company information is reachable — blocking automated access and slowing every human lookup.

Bot-challenge wall

An enterprise anti-bot layer (Cloudflare challenge, DataDome, Imperva or similar) challenges or blocks visitors before the register loads at all.

Open

The register's public search is reachable without captcha or challenge wall.

Methodology

Vantage point

Every register is probed from an IP address within its own country, so geo-blocking cannot masquerade as availability and the measurement reflects what a domestic user actually experiences.

Cadence & window

Each register's official public endpoint is probed at least daily; the availability figures are the rolling 90-day uptime published live on our public status board. A day counts by its WORST observed state.

Status definitions

Operational — search and data retrieval answered normally. Degraded — the register answered but a function was impaired (e.g. document retrieval failing while search works). Unavailable — the official endpoint did not answer or returned its outage page.

Barrier classification

Each register's official public search is fingerprinted for captcha systems and anti-bot challenge layers; a register is classified by the strongest barrier observed in the most recent infrastructure scan.

Limitations

Availability is measured from the outside and can differ from register-internal figures; barrier classification reflects the most recent scan and can change when a register redeploys; registers added recently have a shorter history within the window. We publish the raw per-register data precisely so findings can be checked.
